AIA Pune Chapter

AIA encourages brainstorming and discussions for relevant topics in the field of automation to bring together thought leaders, professionals and other stakeholders from the automation industry to bring about change and advancement in automation. The Pune chapter of AIA meets every month. Recently the group met at B&R office on 3rd March. The host, PV Sivaram shared some experiences of B&R in its India journey.

The first item on the agenda was the recommendations to be given to COEP for the open elective courses in Automation. The group was of the opinion that we should give a constraint-free blueprint of the desired course that we would like to see from 2012 onwards. Constraint mapping should be left to the college. The group also agreed that sufficient details of course should be provided for each module. This would help us take the curriculum forward with other colleges. If needed our members could volunteer and take the initial lectures. On the request of Shekhar Dhamankar, who is tied up until April end, Ajay Phatak agreed to complete the pending coordination.

Related to the CampusConnect initiatives, the group agreed to evaluate the option of e-learning modules, as these would help in reducing the classroom hours. Ajay Bhagwat offered to connect the group with concerned agencies. The decision to send a team from Pune to Bhusaval was kept pending as members expressed apprehension about the logistics. A final decision would be communicated in 2 weeks time.

The group was briefed about discussions with IIT Bombay and the possibility of participation. Ajay Bhagwat is already on the AIA – IITB joint working group. Invitation to attend a workshop with EU would be shared with Chapter members.

Dilip Miskin has offered to build momentum in the Linkedin group. The group agreed to share ideas about how we could add value through this facility. In the initial period the administrative control would rest with AIA Action Cell.

The next meeting will be hosted by Messung in mid April. Anup will report on the suggestion of Pune Chapter that AIA should promote the adoption and compliance to international standards on safety and involve end users and policy makers in this process.
